Board Briefing: May 2026

The Board of Directors convened this month to celebrate end-of-year milestones, transition key leadership roles, review financial and strategic initiatives, and approve critical operational and safety updates ahead of the summer recess.

Celebrations & Community Milestones
The meeting opened with a reflection on the numerous achievements that marked the conclusion of the academic year:
  • Academic & Professional Graduations: We celebrated the incredible accomplishments of our community, including 4 Associate Degree graduates, 1 Paramedic graduate, and 3 staff members who completed their degree programs.
  • Artistic Collaborations: The Board highlighted the installation of the Decker Johnson Boards, a collaborative project made possible by our talented student artists, staff, families, City Center Waco, and Mazanec.
  • District Traditions: Acknowledgments were shared for the success of the YMCA End-of-Year Bash, the end-of-year district lunch, the awarding of 17 Board of Directors scholarships, and the upcoming Graduation ceremonies.

Governance & Leadership Transitions
The Board recognized shifting leadership within our campus community representation:
  • Parent Representation: The Board extended its deepest gratitude to Yenery Olivera for her dedicated service during her final meeting as parent representative. Following the search process established by the Board, Kristen Cook was announced as the incoming parent representative.

Committee Updates & Strategic Programs
District leadership and committees provided updates on ongoing financial planning, city partnerships, and state-aligned programs:
  • Finance: The committee continues its long-term strategic efforts to ensure robust, stable financial planning for the district. Additionally, coordination is underway with the City of Waco regarding permit and improvement reimbursements for the Raven Court.
  • Academic Alignment (TIA & TRA): Superintendent Neumann provided a comprehensive overview of the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) and Texas Resilience Allotment (TRA) programs. The briefing detailed staff eligibility requirements and the balanced use of objective and subjective measures to ensure programmatic validity and compliance.
  • Technology & Infrastructure: Chief Technology Officer Brownlee delivered an in-depth review of district IT initiatives, highlighting recent and upcoming service enhancements and cost-saving measures.
Operational Actions & Safety Compliance
Following a closed session dedicated to reviewing the District Vulnerability Assessment (DVA) recently completed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Board returned to open session to approve the consent agenda and several key operational allocations:
  • Campus Space Optimization: Funds were approved to relocate district administrative staff to the basement of the DCAC, successfully freeing up vital classroom spaces at both the middle school and high school levels.
  • Safety & Compliance: In alignment with DVA recommendations and state compliance, the Board approved the purchase of upgraded door hardware across campus facilities.
  • Summer Operations & Staffing: The Board authorized expenditures for summer school programs as well as summer working days for special populations staff and incoming principals.
  • Lifecycle Management: To improve operational efficiency, a new lifecycle management tool was approved to streamline tracking and maintenance across IT, Facilities, Transportation, and Food Services.

Summer Operations Notice
Beginning next week, the district will transition to summer operating hours. All offices will be open Monday through Thursday, from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Should you have any questions regarding these updates, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your hard work and dedication throughout this school year, and we wish each of you a restful and rejuvenating summer break.
